Now, I love living walls. I’ve installed over a dozen of them and I’ve also installed hundreds of thousands of m2 of green roofs, but i’m not convinced they are THE solution to better air quality.
Recently many schools, particularly in London, are considering Living walls as green screens to absorb and block polluting air particles and improve the health of their pupils and staff. Yes they look great and any addition of green space is a good thing in my book but the cost!! Virtually all enquiries I get understand the ‘up-front’ cost but nearly all forget the ongoing yearly cost of maintenance and up keep that is substantial. I maintain a prestigious living wall in central London and that costs up to £20k per year to maintain.
Schools don’t have either the capital budget or the maintenance budget and so the dream ends rapidly and our children continue to breathe in all sorts of rubbish on a daily basis.
Whilst green is great (but expensive), a low cost and effective solution can be introduced using Aquaten Clean. Aquaten Clean is a passive and simple to fit (and retro-fit) system that attracts particulates to it (adsorbing) PM2.5’s and 10’s etc which will take out a range of harmful particulates from the air we breathe. Placed outside schools, hospitals, train stations and anywhere that people are choking because of the contaminated air in which they go about their daily lives, Aquaten Clean must be looked at as THE viable solution to clearing the air we breathe.
